Tänään olen opiskellut yksinkertaisen animaation tekemistä omatoimisesti ja tehdä animoitua versiota DUDE -hankkeen logosta DUDE -esittelyvideota varten. En ole koskaan ennen tehnyt animaatiota, en edes media-alan opinnoissa. Siksi tämä on minulle haastavaa. Ja myös erittäin työlästä. Photoshopilla kun tekee vähänkään monimutkaisempaa animaation, se täytyy käytännössä tehdä niin, että teet kuvaan useita layereita, editoit yhden layerin haluamallasi tavalla ja konverttaat sen jälkeen sen layerin frameksi. Tämä prosessi käydään hitaasti yksi layer kerrallaan läpi kunnes kaikki layerit on muutettu frameiksi.

Jos menisin sieltä mistä aita on niin sanotusti matalin ja tekisin vaan yksinkertaisen animaation, jossa teksti vähän liikkuu, sitä ei tarvisi tehdä näin monimutkaisesti vaan voisin animoida sen vaan tekemällä pari framea ja liikuttelemalla tekstia edestakaisin hiirellä. Mutta mä hyppäsin heti syvään päähän ja teen animaatiota jossa kikkailen efekteillä ja erikoistehosteilla. Se on pakko tehdä niin että yksi layer ja frame kerraallaan hitaasti editoimalla. Sellaiseen menee helposti kokonainen työpäivä tai kaksi. Jotta animaatio toimii, se täytyy myös lopuksi exportata joko .gif tiedostona tai renderöidä videoksi.

Today I have tried to learn how to make an animation on my own and make an animated version of the DUDE logo for the upcoming DUDE introduction video. I have never done animation before, not even during my studies at Mediakeskus Lime. And that's why this is a very big challenge for me. It takes a lot of work as well. When you make a little bit more complicated animation in Photoshop, you need to basically make several layers, edit one layer to your liking, then convert it to a frame. Then you must slowly do this process again for all layers, one layer at a time, until they have all been edited and converted to frames.

If I would take the easy way and made just something simple, like making the text move around a bit, I wouldn't have to do it in such a complicated manner. In that situation I could just make a couple of frames and move the text around with the mouse to create an animation. But I dove right into the deep end with this. I'm trying to make an animation where I do some fancy tricks with special effects. That kind of animation can only be done one layer and one frame at a time. It takes a whole workday or even two. In order to make the animation work properly, it also needs to be exported as a .gif file or rendered as a video.
